Information Protection

Information Protection (IP) touches every Air Force active-duty member, reservist, guardsman, civil servant, and contract employee regardless of rank or position, we all have IP responsibilities.

 

Mission

Manages the 341 MW Information, Personnel, and Industrial Security Programs while ensuring all 341 MW Information Protection multi-security disciplines provide converged and assured mission support for protection of all 341 MW and tenant unit capabilities. Additionally responsible as the Counter Insider Threat (C-InT) Liaison for reporting to the Counter Insider Threat Hub risks posed by individuals with authorized access to networks or facilities.

Vision

To prevent the compromise, loss, unauthorized access/disclosure, destruction, distortion, or non-accessibility of information, regardless of physical form or characteristics, over the life cycle of the information, including actions to regulate access to sensitive information, controlled unclassified information and classified information.

Value

Sustaining air, space, and cyberspace dominance by upholding security standards to protect Malmstrom AFB key assets from unauthorized access.

Core IP Disciplines

  • Information Security (INFOSEC): Safeguards classified material from unauthorized exposure and governs the management, handling, and dissemination of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
  • Personnel Security (PERSEC): Evaluates and verifies the reliability and trustworthiness of military personnel, civil servants, and contractors, utilizing continuous vetting to manage security clearance eligibility and access to classified resources.
  • Industrial Security (INDSEC): Establishes and enforces security protocols to protect classified national security information when entrusted to private industry partners, defense contractors, and academic grantees.
  • Insider Threat Program: Mitigating risks posed by individuals who have, or once had, authorized access to information, a facility, a network, a person, or a resource; and wittingly, or unwittingly, commits an act in contravention of law or policy that resulted in, or might result in, harm through the loss or degradation of government information resources, or capabilities; or a destructive act, which may include physical harm to another in the workplace.
