Geotechnical surveys at former Montana missile sites
Clark Jorgensen, a geophysicist with Water & Environmental Technologies of Butte, Mont., records seismic waves Aug. 12, 2025, at a former Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missile launch facility near Conrad, Mont. WET was subcontracted by Northup Grumman, the prime contractor for the Sentinel Project, for pre-decisional geotechnical investigations at 13 decommissioned Minuteman sites in the former 564th Missile Squadron complex. Seismic imaging will inform Sentinel ICBM construction planning by predicting hard bedrock and soft pockets of soil below the site’s surface. (U.S. Air Force photo by John Turner)
