A C-54E Skymaster named “Spirit of Freedom” is a flying museum being flown all over the country by members of the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation to help raise awareness of the Berlin Airlift. There are multiple displays in the aircraft showing the different missions the C-54 was used for—from being one of the first aircraft used by the president as Air Force One to one of the famous flyers the “Candy Bomber” used to drop chocolate bars over Germany throughout the Berlin Airlift. The C-54 was the workhorse of its day. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Chad Thompson)
