Montana’s ghost towns: Elkhorn
Abandoned old buildings are scattered around Elkhorn, a once booming mining town nestled in the Elkhorn Mountains is southwestern Montana. At one point during its prime, Elkhorn was producing nearly 11 tons of ore per day. The total value its mines produced is estimated at nearly $14 million in gold, silver and iron from 1880 to about 1971. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Chad Thompson)
