Old Prison Museum

The 600-seat Clark Theater, located inside the old Montana state prison compound, was constructed in 1919 using funds donated by W. A. Clark, Jr., son of the Butte copper king. The theater hosted boxing matches, meetings, religious services, movies, plays, and prison band performances. The theater was gutted by a fire in 1975. Today the building houses a hanging gallow that was built in 1920 and was used to execute seven men. (U.S. Air Force photo / John Turner)
