MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Malmstrom Air Force Base Airmen support the most responsive leg of the nuclear triad and are charged to defend the United States with combat ready nuclear forces and on order, conduct global strike. As the backbone of America’s national security, these Airmen are no strangers to stress and responsibility.
Part of the Malmstrom Family Advocacy Program’s role is to help Airmen and their families manage stress in a positive, preventative manner.
The mission of the U.S. Air Force FAP is to build healthy communities through implementing programs designed for the prevention and treatment of domestic violence, as well as child abuse and neglect. The Malmstrom FAP team uses a variety of resources and expertise to carry out this mission.
This organization consists a team of specialists who work together to provide a range of services that vary from preventative to responsive programs.
Rachael Stubbs, 341st Missile Wing Family Advocacy intervention specialist, focuses on preventative, supportive services like the New Parent Support Program and training base leadership on FAP resources.
“Our NPSP offers education and services to prepare parents to handle pregnancy, birth and the first three years of a child’s growth and development,” said Stubbs. “[NPSP] offers free books and handouts, parenting classes, home visits, education, support, information and referrals.”
NPSP also provides couples’ and parental counseling in addition to other resources to help guide new parents through raising a family.
FAP offers a wealth of resources, such as anger management, workshops, and communication services, to offer help and support to those who need it.
“Our goal is to strengthen relationships, communication and coping skills so that individuals can be successful,” said Stubbs. “By focusing on strengths and prevention, we can significantly decrease the rates for family violence.”
The Malmstrom mission is demanding and by providing information and resources, the FAP allows Airmen to focus on their incredible responsibility of national defense.
