Youth Centers on all U.S. military installations are affiliated with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Youth of the Year is one of BGCA’s premier youth recognition programs, recognizing sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community.

Anthony Harris, age 14, was selected as the 2019 Malmstrom Military Youth of the Year. He went on to win the title of Montana State Military YOY at the Montana BGCA YOY competition in Helena. He won a $5,000 college scholarship and will go to Dallas in June to compete in the BGCA Southwest Regional Military YOY!

Winners at the state level compete for the BGCA SW Military Region YOY against seven other military regional winners for an additional $10,000 scholarship from BGCA. Five regional winners and one military winner advance to Washington, D.C., in September 2019 to compete for the national title. The national winner receives an additional scholarship of up to $50,000 from The Rick and Susan Goings Foundation and has the opportunity to meet with the President of the United States in the White House.

Harris is excited to compete at the regional level and credits the Youth Center for his accomplishment so far. “The Youth Center has made me into the person I am today, and I just want to give back to others,” said Harris.
