Malmstrom Airmen test grit during Norwegian Foot March
MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Malmstrom Air Force base hosted a Norwegian Foot March on May 26, 2026. The march is a military endurance test in which Airmen and civilians cover a distance of 18.6 miles while wearing a loaded rucksack weighing at least 24.25 pounds, and military participants must wear their service's combat uniform and boots for the entire march. First held in 1915 as a Norwegian Army test of soldiers' marching endurance, the event was originally designed to prove troops could move long distances quickly while carrying equipment and remain ready for combat afterward; today its purpose is to promote interest in long-distance marching among military and civilian personnel.
