MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- U.S. Air Force Gen. S.L. Davis, commander of Air Force Global Strike Command, visited here May 4-6 to engage with Airmen and immerse himself with the Airmen who sustain the nation’s nuclear alert mission.
During his visit, Davis met with missileers, maintainers, Defenders and support personnel across the installation, reinforcing the critical role each Airman plays in ensuring a safe, secure and effective intercontinental ballistic missile operation. The visit gave Davis, a career missileer himself, a chance to return to Malmstrom and assess how mission modernization is progressing.
“Our nuclear readiness is absolutely critical, and our Airmen consistently deliver to that high standard,” Davis said. “It is through their unparalleled dedication and technical expertise that we maintain an ICBM force that is always ready.”
Davis’ two-day tour began with mission briefs alongside senior leaders from the 341st Missile Wing. These briefs highlighted ongoing modernization efforts including fleet and infrastructure upgrades, and the Sentinel program as the future of ICBMs. During the visit, Malmstrom Airmen highlighted both legacy and new equipment supporting the 24/7 missile alert mission. Much of the equipment was the same Minuteman III hardware Davis first worked with as he stood alert as a young missileer and later oversaw as the wing’s vice commander in 2010.
As the command transitions to Sentinel, recent modernization upgrades like the MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopter, the Payload Transporter Replacement and the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle are already enhancing efficiency, reliability and overall mission effectiveness across the enterprise.
Throughout his visit, Davis prioritized direct engagement with Airmen, hosting small group discussions with junior enlisted members and noncommissioned officers. These conversations provided an opportunity for Airmen to share their experiences, challenges and ideas for improving mission execution and quality of life. In addition, he met with local civic leaders, stressing the importance of strong community partnerships to support Airmen and their families.
“Air Force Global Strike Command is at the heart of our nation’s nuclear mission,” Davis said. “Airmen across the missile wings play a vital role not just for the United States, but for peace and stability worldwide.”
Davis’ visit reinforced the importance of Malmstrom’s mission and highlighted the command’s continued investment in its people, fleet and infrastructure which ensures the United States maintains a credible and effective nuclear force for decades to come.
