Recently, there has been a rash of thefts on base from secured and unsecured vehicles. Often these thefts are targets of opportunity. Help yourselves and law enforcement by following some basic crime prevention tips.

· Get to know your neighbors and become familiar with your every day surroundings. By doing so, you will be more apt to recognize vehicles or people who don't belong.
· Notify Security Forces at 731-3895 for "Quarters Watch" when you plan to be on leave. On-duty patrolmen will conduct exterior physical checks during your absence.
· Do not give a would-be thief the opportunity. Be security conscious, lock doors and ensure windows are shut before leaving your home or vehicle unattended.
· Do not make yourself a desirable target. When leaving your vehicle unattended, ensure you take all valuables with you or place them out of sight.
· Do not leave vehicles unattended while the engine is running. It is not only unwise, it is against the law.
· Pick up the phone and report all suspicious activities or crimes in progress. Remember as many details about the event as possible and immediately call the dispatch center by dialing 911.

In an era of doing more with less, crime prevention can no longer be the sole responsibility of the security forces members. Remember to report all incidents to law enforcement as soon a possible. Crime prevention is everyone's business.
