Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a U.S. federal holiday marking the birthday of the reverend and doctor who used the power of words and acts of nonviolent resistance to achieve civil rights goals in the United States in the 1960s. He is honored and remembered around the world as an American leader in civil and human rights. This year the day of observance will be recognized on January 21, 2019. The theme of this special observance is “Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On, Not A Day Off!” and calls upon the American people to engage in public service and promote peaceful, social change.
