Search and rescue
Staff Sgt. Michael Frances, 40th Helicopter Squadron flight engineer, employs the forward-looking infrared radar, a small screen that hangs from the roof of the helicopter Nov. 19. The FLIR is used to scan various convoy routes and launch facility sites. It can also be used in infrared mode to pick up heat sources such as a body of a lost hiker during search and rescue operations. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Eydie Sakura).
