Breast cancer is an issue that hits close to home for many women. No exception is Dolly Wojciechowski, produce worker at the commissary.

Ms. Wojciechowski, who has been crocheting for 40 years, spent a couple of hours daily for three months crocheting a pink breast cancer awareness blanket to serve as a door prize during the Health and Wellness Center's Ladies Night event Oct. 19.

"Many people in my family have struggled with cancer," Ms. Wojciechowski said. "My niece had breast cancer, which is what inspired me to start my first breast cancer awareness blanket. My sister also had cancer and I have a couple of friends who have had breast cancer as well."

After she made her first blanket for her niece, she decided to make one this year to show her support for the cause, and help promote awareness and early detection.

"Helping to get the word out is very important and people are making good headway in the field of breast cancer research," she said. "It's a good feeling to help because so many people are affected by it."

Along with supporting the cause, Ms. Wojciechowski said the blanket was made with a lot of love and she hopes whoever wins it will get a lot of comfort from it.
