Team Malmstrom members enjoyed food, games and company at Sun Plaza Park on Aug. 23 during Malmstrom Air Force Base's annual base picnic. Airmen who attended had a chance to lay down the tools of their trade for a couple hours and relax during the event.

"I had a good time with everyone," said Airman 1st Class Alan Chongcarbo, 341st Civil Engineer Squadron technician. "It's good to be able to spend some time outside of the shop with friends and coworkers. One of the things I enjoyed the most was the classic cars; the free food was also a plus."

Almost 3,000 hamburgers and hot dogs were grilled up for the hungry picnickers. Event sponsors spared no expense to show everyone a good time.

Nearly 20 classic cars ranging from a 1971 Pontiac GTO to a 1967 Ford Mustang coupe were on display for everyone to see as part of a car show. Newer models brought in from local dealerships were also on display for anyone looking to make a hefty purchase.

David Wilson-Scott, 341st Force Support Squadron Education Center member, and Staff Sgt. Stephen Marvin, 819th RED HORSE Squadron unit deployment manager, also provided music for the event.

"I was jamming with the music," said Airman 1st Class Joshua Omije, 341st Civil Engineer Squadron technician. "It was good to just relax. Work can be hectic and frustrating at times so being given a chance to leave a little early and attend an event like this is great."

More than 3,000 Malmstrom members gathered at the park throughout the day. According to the event coordinators, the annual picnic gives Attendees the opportunity to break away from the monotony of work and the pressures that go along with it. It is a helpful tool in building morale and giving Malmstrom a more family oriented environment.

"I would like this to take place more often," Chongcarbo said. "Spending time outside the work place with the people you work with is just as important as the work we do together on a daily basis. Whenever the next event takes place I will be there enjoying the company."
