Community notes: Week ending Nov. 22 Published Nov. 22, 2013 MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Commissary Thanksgiving hours The Malmstrom Commissary will be open Nov. 25 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for regular shopping only - no early bird. In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the store will be closed Nov. 28 and 29 and will reopen Nov. 30 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. for early bird shopping and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for regular shopping. First Strike Blood Drive Challenge The First Sergeants' Council is hosting a second blood drive challenge amongst Malmstrom groups - the 341st Maintenance Group, 341st Operations Group, 341st Mission Support Group, 341st Medical Group, 341st Security Forces Group and the 819th RED HORSE Squadron. The second blood drive is scheduled for Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Grizzly Bend. The group who gives the most blood will receive a trophy. Plastic bag recycling program Malmstrom's commissary is now in the plastic bag recycling program. Embry-Riddle to discontinue on-site courses Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has discontinued on-site classes at Malmstrom Air Force Base. Online courses and degrees will continue to be supported. Current students have been notified and referred to the Online Learning Department to continue their studies. Outdoor adventure trips The following are outdoor adventure trips offered by Malmstrom's Outdoor Recreation: A caving adventure to Lick Creek Cave is scheduled for Nov. 23 from 1:30 to 9 p.m. A Glacier hiking weekend is scheduled to leave Nov. 30 at 6 a.m. and return Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. A Glacier backpacking trip is scheduled to leave Dec. 7 at 7 a.m. and return Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. A Wing Ski Day is scheduled for Dec. 18 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Showdown Ski Resort. John Maxwell seminars for Team Malmstrom Airmen The John Maxwell "The 360 Degree Leader" all-day seminars will be offered at the Education and Training Center for NCOs Dec. 11 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The John Maxwell "Developing the leader Within You" Seminars will be offered for NCOs Jan. 23, for airmen basic through senior airmen Feb. 19, and senior NCOs and lieutenants March 19. All classes are limited to 30 attendees. Military Retirees Council seeking volunteers to wrap gifts The Military Retirees Council is offering free gift-wrapping services at the Malmstrom Exchange from Dec. 13 to 15 and Dec. 20 to 24 from 9 a.m. until closing in support of Operation Happy Holidays and are looking for volunteers. Volunteers are needed for two hour shifts but will accept any help. The council will provide all the wrapping materials and have a retiree assistant at each shift if needed.
