Military Health System Review Published June 5, 2014 By Lt. Gen. Thomas Travis U.S. Air Force Surgeon General WASHINGTON -- By now you are aware that the Secretary of Defense has directed a review of the Military Health System (MHS) with regard to access, patient safety and quality of care (memorandum attached). While the Secretary has tremendous confidence in the MHS, a confluence of events, some outside of DoD, led to the decision to initiate this review. Accreditation surveys and our performance metrics indicate we have strong programs pertinent to access, patient safety and quality of care, but we know these are areas of continuous improvement. We believe this tri-Service review will be an excellent means to demonstrate our long-standing commitment to providing trusted care anywhere, but will also provide an opportunity to discover where we can make further improvements. I welcome this review. See the rest of the memorandum and attachment here.
