Wingman Month is a celebration of the Air Force team. For Malmstrom Air Force Base, throughout the month of September, this celebration continues in the form of a community fair, base glow run, free luncheon for Airmen and multiple leadership building courses for Airmen of all ranks.

"When we join the Air Force, we become part of a unique and diverse culture," said Lori Muzzana, 341st Missile Wing community support coordinator. "The foundation of this 'culture of Airmen' is our core values; integrity first, service before self and excellence in all we do.

"Our culture and core values compel us as a dedicated team of Airmen to be committed to personal fitness, taking care of each other and fostering trust and respect," she continued.

Wingman month is a time to reflect on these values and focus on building a greater bond between Airmen that can overcome any obstacle, said Muzzana.

The activities will focus on two of the comprehensive Airmen fitness domains: spiritual and social.

"(This month) is about looking at what people need," said Muzzana. "Having these events is a fun way to gather everyone together.

"All the events taking place are geared toward boosting morale and taking care of the whole person," she continued.

There are three main goals for the month that relate to team building. The first is to develop a common vocabulary for Airmen and families. Good communication and a free flow of information is the heart of this goal.

The second is to provide as many face-to-face activities as possible for people to participate in. The hope with this goal is to build a stronger bond between peers and coworkers, and allow Airmen to get to know their supervisors on a deeper level.

The third is to foster small group interaction and provide skill building and team building exercises.

According to Muzzana, the biggest challenge in putting on all these events for Team Malmstrom members is being a one-person office.

"Without group volunteers offering support, I couldn't do it," said Muzzana. "This is a team approach."
