MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont --  Roughly half of home fire deaths result from fires reported between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when most people are asleep. Protect yourself and your family by installing a smoke alarm in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of your home, including the basement. Find out more at www.firepreventionweek.org. Fire Prevention Week starts Oct. 4. The following are a list of events during the week.

Oct 4:
Children's fire truck ride, 1-5 p.m., Base Fire Station, Building 349

Oct 5:
Sparky at Loy Elementary School, 8-11 a.m.
Announce winners of the "Hear the BEEP where you SLEEP, Every bedroom needs a working smoke alarm" kids' poster contest at Loy Elementary School
Tours of Fire Department, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., call 731-3560 to schedule
Hand out fire safety education pamphlets, housing area, 5-7 p.m.

Oct 6:
Sparky and fire truck visit Base Library, 10 a.m.
Hand out fire safety education pamphlets, housing area, 5-7 p.m.

Oct 7:
Fire education display, Commissary, 8:30-11:30 a.m.
Sparky and fire truck visit Child Development Center, 9 a.m.
Hand out fire safety education pamphlets, housing area, 5-7 p.m.

Oct 8:
Fire education display at Base Exchange, 8:30-11:30 a.m.
Sparky and Fire Truck visit part-day program at CDC,9 a.m.
Sparky and Fire Truck visit Building 4100, Home Daycare Program, 10:30 a.m.
Tours of Fire Department, 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., call 731-3560 to schedule

Oct 9:
Fire Muster Competition, BX parking lot, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Auto extrication demo, BX parking lot, 1 p.m.

Oct 10:
Fire prevention display with fire education trailer and fire truck display, BX parking lot,10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Fire truck parade, 2:15 p.m.
