Get pumped-up for the CFC

MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. --  As 2015 ascends into the holiday season, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana, is gearing up to support the Combined Federal Campaign for another year of charitable contributions Oct. 9 to Nov. 9.

The CFC mission is to encourage federal employees to participate in the world's largest annual workplace charity campaign to make tax-deductible donations to eligible non-profit organizations focused on improving the health, wealth and quality of human life.

"Our planning started back in May," said Master Sgt. Ronrico Pace, 341st Security Forces Squadron, and a wing CFC team lead.

The base coordinates with local leaders as well as the command chief and the commander to plan the event, said Pace.

"The CFC is one of two Air Force affiliated campaigns that we support," said Pace. "There are a plethora of local charities that help the local community."

During the CFC, both military members and civilian employees at Malmstrom will be able to donate to an organization through an on-base point of contact or by setting up a payroll deduction.

"Our goal for this year is to have 100 percent contact with personnel and to have a $100,000 monetary goal," said Pace. "One hundred percent contact means that the (CFC) key workers make contact with their whole squadrons to get maximum base participation."

To make a donation through the CFC, individuals can go through their squadron's key worker to fill out the donation form. At that time, the individual can pick from approximately 22,000 charities to donate to. Donations can be made in cash or as a direct deposit.

Malmstrom AFB will be hosting a kickoff event for the CFC Oct. 9 at the Grizzly Bend beginning at 9 a.m. to get the base pumped-up for the campaign.

"Our game plan is starting aggressive early," said Pace. "The kickoff is the official start of the campaign, and we're doing the event early to get the key workers and base personnel all in the same place at the same time to encourage maximum participation."

Chief Master Sgt. Thomas Stiles, 341st Missile Wing command chief, and Gary Owen will be speaking at the event. Gary Owen is a representative for the United Way of Cascade County who works with the CFC, and has more information on the impact that the CFC has in the local area.

"The CFC has 23 categories of charities to appeal to a large amount of people," said Tech. Sgt. Tim Adkins, 12th Missile Squadron, and a wing CFC team lead. "Everyone has an interest. There is an opportunity to everyone to donate to something they care about."

In the past, Malmstrom Airmen, their families and civilian employees have gone above and beyond the call to give to help their fellow man.

"Everyday people are in need," said Pace. "We do our part in the Air Force to help those in need."
