Group computer managers or client system administrators will be the points of contact for distribution. Personnel identified as needing accesses to their e-mail from home will be required to sign a user agreement before being issued the software, hardware and instructions for installation and use.

The software requires less than 10 megabytes of free space on the user's hard drive to operate, according to Master Sgt. John Engelhardt, 341st Mission Support Group GCM. "And the software will not work with the newest version of Microsoft Windows [Vista]," he advised. This software is the standard with all new computers, he said.

"The biggest thing to remember is that use of these items from home is at the user's own risk," said Ms. Cogger. "Neither CSAs nor 341st CS help desk personnel will be available to install or to troubleshoot home CAC reader systems."

The Web mail home access program was suspended in July 2006 due to a Department of Defense mandate. Since then, a CAC login- based solution has been developed.

Anyone interested in obtaining a CAC reader, the software to run it and the accompanying instructions should contact their CSA for more information.
