Upgrades have come to the car wash on base and although sunny days since their installation have been few and far between, many people have already tried out the new features.

The Air Force Space Command-funded replacement of the automatic car washing system, which was more than 6 years old, was completed Jan. 25. Similar in design to the old one, the new system is more powerful and has some added features.

"All of the wash options include a double wash - the old one only provided a single wash - and all of the options include an undercarriage cleaning," said Tom Kiernan, manager of the Skills Development Center. "The top two wash choices also include a tire and wheel scrub."

The outside vacuums have been replaced, as well, he said. The new versions each have three motors to them providing twice as much power as the other ones had.

For the self-wash bays, card swipe machines have been added for those customers who want to purchase multi-use cards. They are available for sale at the Arts and Crafts Center in $25 and $50 increments.

"The token boxes are still there and customers can also still use cash in the self-wash bays," Mr. Kiernan said. "The swipe machines are just another option."

Prices did increase on the automatic car wash by one dollar for each option offered.
Here's what your money will get you:
$5: Double wash and undercarriage cleaning.
$6: Same as above but the car will also be dried
$7: Same as above but add in wax.
$8: Same as above but add in the tire and wheel scrubbing.

The automatic car wash accepts cash and credit cards.
