Deborah Frazier 341st Space Wing Staff Judge Advocate Office MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- A general court-martial was held here Jan. 17 to 19 in the case of United States v. Technical Sergeant Jay C. Powers. Sergeant Powers, a member of the 819th RED HORSE Squadron, was charged with one charge and two specifications of conspiring with a staff sergeant to commit larceny of money, of a value of more than $500, the property of the United States by arranging to have a Government Purchase Card charged by Big R Stores for items not purchased or received, and applied the charged amount to gift cards for personal use, in violation of UCMJ Article 81; and charged with one charge and two specifications of larceny of money, of a value of more than $500, the property of the United States, in violation of UCMJ Article 121. At trial, Sergeant Powers pled guilty to both charges and all specifications. After his guilty plea was accepted by the military judge, a six member officer panel sentenced Technical Sergeant Powers to a reduction to the grade of senior airman, forfeiture of $1,000 pay for two months and 30 days hard labor without confinement.
