According to AFI 91-207, The US Air Force Traffic Safety Program, helmet use while riding a bicycle is required. The use of helmets while operating non-motorized and motorized transportation devices while on Malmstrom Air Force Base is also mandatory, per this policy. Non-motorized devices include skateboards, kick-scooters, roller skates and roller blades. Motorized devices included electric kick-scooters, as-powered kick-scooters, children's electric scooters and other related devices. These two types of devices are prohibited on installation roadways except for incidental road access associated with pedestrians and will comply with all pedestrian-related traffic laws.

Everyone will wear a properly fastened and approved bicycle helmet in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Approved helmets include those accredited by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, American National Standards Institute or the Snell Memorial Foundation. The use of additional personal protective equipment, such as knee pads, wrist guards, elbow pads, etc., are highly encouraged for non-motorized devices. A minimum of elbow and knee pads are required for motorized devices.

The use of these devices can be an enjoyable experience, but every effort should be made to ensure these activities are done safely.
