The Airmen of the 341st Space Wing completed their annual Missile Standardization, Evaluation and Training Assessment and Helicopter Maintenance Standardization and Evaluation Program evaluations Feb. 11 with resounding success.

The purpose of the MSET is to provide the 20th Air Force commander with an assessment of a unit's standardization, evaluation and training processes and programs, technical proficiency, and support. Additionally, the MSEP certifies a unit's ability to properly maintain UH-1N helicopters.

The assessment uses a five-tier scale ranging from outstanding to unsatisfactory to rate the wing's training and evaluation programs. To emphasize the 341st SW's exemplary performance, Lt. Col. Bart Beisner, MSET team leader and 20th Air Force Director of Safety and Nuclear Surety, prefaced the assessment out brief, "for this briefing, we won't need the bottom three ratings."

The 341st SW received "Excellent" ratings in every MSET assessment area except maintenance and security forces evaluation proficiency, which received "Outstanding" ratings. The wing's overall rating is "Excellent" for the MSET and "Outstanding" for the MSEP.

A combined individual and team effort resulted in 51 professional performers and 39 professional teams being recognized by evaluators. "This is more than twice what we've recognized at the other 20th Air Force units," said Colonel Beisner.

"The MSET evaluators commented several times about the maintenance teams' 'obvious preparation and positive attitudes.' That was the key," said Col. William Hughes, 341st Maintenance Group commander. "Our vehicles and equipment also looked great. Colonel Finan witnessed the total team effort that went into making sure they looked good on the first day of the inspection - it set the tone for every other inspection that followed."

"The 341st has set a new standard in excellence. Once again we demonstrated what the warriors of the 341st do so well ...we fight and we win!" said Col. Sandy Finan, 341st Space Wing commander. "With 11 commendable items identified and twice the norm for professional performers and teams, it is clear that Malmstrom is not only Air Force Space Command's most powerful wing, but also its best wing. The professionalism, dedication and expertise displayed by each individual absolutely awed the inspectors. As commander, I am honored to serve with such incredible people."
