The 819th RED HORSE Squadron hosted the base's quarterly Deployed Spouses Picnic Saturday at Sun Plaza Park.

The picnic was an opportunity for those individuals whose spouse is deployed to meet and greet fellow spouses, enjoy lunch and be included in a raffle for a one-hour massage at a local health spa.

"This was something I came up with based on what we used to do when I was stationed at Peterson Air Force Base," said Senior Master Sgt. Chuck Meyer, 741st Missile Security Forces Squadron first sergeant. "It's a great way to help the spouses network with other people going through the same thing."

Three massages were up for raffle and a local health spa donated an extra one-hour massage when the first sergeants purchased the others, Sergeant Meyer said.
The Deployed Spouses Picnic is put on by numerous private organizations on base. A different organization handles the event each quarter. First sergeants from each squadron coordinate to get the spouses of deployed members together.

First sergeants attended the picnic, as well.

"Shirts, commanders and key spouses are usually there so families can get to know who they are so if they need help, they feel more comfortable coming to us," Sergeant Meyer said.

This is one of the great things we get to do for our deployed members to show their spouses there are people here for them while their loved ones are deployed, Sergeant Meyer said.

The next Deployed Spouses Picnic is hosted by a different squadron each quarter.
