Take the Grizzly Challenge Published July 19, 2007 By Valerie Mullett 341st Space Wing Public Affairs Office MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Take the ATV-hold, and preface it with a tire-flip event and the farmer's walk. Throw in a kettle toss and you have what will forever-more be known as the base picnic's "Grizzly Challenge." There will be a men's and women's category and each will have three subdivisions based on weight classes. No personal equipment is allowed. Participants must use the equipment provided by the Fitness Center. Prizes will be awarded based on a point system. Registration takes place Tuesday through Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Fitness Center. Weight classes will be determined at that time. Weight Classes * Men's: Lightweight = 170 lbs. or less * Middleweight = 171 to 200 lbs. * Heavyweight = 201 lbs. and over * Women's: Lightweight = 120 lbs. or less * Middleweight = 121 to 150 lbs. * Heavyweight = 151 lbs. and over Points Points will be issued in order of finishing the event, in each weight class, starting with 10 points. First place will receive 10, second receives nine, etc. Any person coming in 10th place or later will receive one point each. At the close of all events, points will be added up. Prizes will be awarded for the first and second place finishers in each category. Tire Flip. Start time is 11:45 a.m. Men will flip a 270 lb., 52 inch tire for 80 feet. Women will flip a 270 lb., 47 inch tire for 80 feet. Points are awarded based on time. Farmer's Walk. Start time is 12:30 p.m. Participants will carry two dumbbells 80 feet, turn and go back to the start point. Weights depend on the competitor's category. Kettle Toss. Start time 1:15 p.m. Men will toss a 40 lb. kettle ball and women will toss a 20 lb. kettle ball for distance. Tosses will be in a round-robin style and each participant gets three tosses, one per round. ATV Hold. Start time is 2 p.m. Participants will stand on a platform with an ATV parked on an incline on each side of them. Holding ropes attached to the ATV, participants will hold on as long as possible as drivers put the ATV in neutral. Points will be based on time of longest hold.
