Base Picnic: It's all happening right here Published July 19, 2007 By Valerie Mullett 341st Space Wing Public Affairs Office MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- The annual base picnic has become an event no one wants to miss. Sponsored each year by the 341st Services Squadron and several commercial sponsors, the picnic offers military members and their families the chance to let their hair down, enjoy some free food, participate in friendly competitions and relax with their friends. This year's event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 27 in the Sun Plaza Park and surrounding areas. The attached map outlines where every thing will be located. Returning again this year is the Grizzly Challenge. "The ATV-hold competition two years ago was such a huge success, we expanded the event last year," said Staci Corder, services marketing director. Complete details are in the related article. New this year for those who want to watch some friendly competition is the Chiefs vs. Eagles softball game. It starts at 11 a.m. on the softball fields across from Aces High Bowling Center. For the children, there will be a water cannon, carnival games, face painting and plenty to keep them busy. Get even with your favorite, or not-so-favorite, person by purchasing tickets in his or her name for the pie throwing contest. You'll find more on that in a separate article, as well. Throughout the summer, Aces High Bowling Center, the Skills Development Center and the Grizzly Bend Club have been offering "Cruising the Summer" stamps with each five dollar purchase. Five stamps fill a card which enters the patron into a drawing to be held between 1 and 2 p.m. for a 2007 Yamaha Big Bear all-terrain vehicle. The deadline to enter this give-away is July 24 at noon, so there's still time to get to one of the facilities above, fill a card and get entered to win. "Every year we try to make this event special and we hope everyone finds some time to come out and enjoy themselves," said Ms. Corder. "An event like this really gives us [Services Squadron] a chance to demonstrate our community service mission that we strive to deliver each day." The picnic is free and open to all personnel eligible to use the 341st Services Squadron programs and facilities. Editor's Note: For everyone's safety and due to health issue with serving food, please do not bring pets to the picnic. Personnel with pets will be asked to leave the picnic area.
