Community Notes - Week of Sept. 24 to 29 Published Sept. 24, 2007 MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Support the weekend hoops tournament The African-American Heritage Association is hosting a fall classic basketball tournament today through Sunday at the Sports and Fitness Center. Malmstrom's base team will compete against other base teams from the mountain west region. There will also be a free children's clinic, featuring the Great Falls Explorers, at 10 a.m. Saturday, along with prize giveaways for those in attendance. Anyone wanting to volunteer or needing more information is asked to call Staff Sgt. Aharon Goins at 731-6315. Scouts to sell popcorn Cub Scout Pack 43 and Boy Scout Troop 43 will be in the base housing area starting Saturday through Oct. 13 going door-to-door for the annual popcorn sale. Scouts will only visit housing residents Monday to Friday between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays between noon and 5 p.m. No visits will be made on Sundays. Scouts will mark mailboxes with stickers to identify the house has been contacted and for no other Scouts to visit there. All Scouts will be in uniform, supervised and from Pack or Troop 43 only. Warrior Chef competition rescheduled The next Warrior Chef competition at the Elkhorn Diner takes place Thursday starting at 4 p.m. Come out and support your favorite chef team. Retirement planning seminars offered There will be a one-day course Oct. 9 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for federal employees covered under the Federal Employees Retirement System who are more than five years away from retiring. This seminar focuses on personal planning and preparing for retirement. A two-day pre-retirement seminar for appropriated funds employees is Oct. 10 and 11, also from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is for those employees covered by both Civil Service Retirement and FERS who are within five years of retirement. Contemporary Christian service set to begin A new contemporary Christian worship service will start Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. at the Detour. This service is designed for the single Airmen and young, married families but everyone is invited to attend. For more information, contact Chaplain (Capt.) Jeromy Wells at 731-3721. Postal Service will supply packing materials The United States Postal Service has a program for military family members and friends to supply them with packaging materials to send packages to troops overseas. Call 1-800-610-8734 and select option 1, then hit 1 again. Ask them for the "military pack." They will send you eight boxes, tape, packaging materials and labels. They will also give you an ID number so if your supply runs low, you can call for more. The materials take about four to 10 days to receive. Thrift shop offers bargains to all The Malmstrom Thrift and Consignment Store is located in building 145 and is open every Tuesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Selections include children's clothing to bedroom sets and the selection of items constantly changes.
