An open house is scheduled for Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the base supply center for purchase-card holders and approving officials.

The event is hosted to develop awareness and educate the federal workforce about National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

"The BSC will provide food and there will be drawings for office-product door prizes," said Dale Perchert BSC manager. "The event is designed to break down barriers and false assumptions about people who are blind or have other disabilities."

NDEAM celebrates the AbilityOne program which provides 48,000 employment opportunities for those less fortunate in the United States.

"Federal purchasing of Skilcraft and other products and services under the AbilityOne program employs thousands of disabled Americans across the nation," Mr. Perchert said.

These workers are able to serve their country by providing necessary products and services to the federal government and armed services, Mr. Perchert said.

"As a result of this extraordinary socio-economic program, non-profit agencies provide federal customers with a wide array of quality products and services while allowing thousands of disabled people to lead more productive and independent lives, pay taxes, help support families and join in the American work experience."
