For more than 10 years, the talented mechanics of the 341st Logistics Readiness Squadron have offered their services to provide free vehicle inspections for the members of Team Malmstrom. This year, those inspections took place Oct. 20, 21, 27 and 28.

Thirty-eight vehicles got the once-over in the course of those four days. "This is something good to do for the community to help out those who are not mechanically inclined, or for spouses with a deployed husband, or just plain anyone who wants to get their vehicle inspected before winter comes," said Staff Sgt. Oscar Saenz, organizer of this year's event.

"We are just trying to help people save time and money by finding small errors that can turn into big problems down the road," said Staff Sgt. Daniel Hayes, vehicle equipment mechanic.

In most cases, the mechanics did find something to notify the owner of. The most common irregularity was incorrect tire pressure and too low fluid levels, according to Sergeant Saenz. In a few cases, cracked engine belts, worn out brake pads and inoperable lights were identified.

"This is a great service," said Master Sgt. Aaron Skrok, 341st Medical Operations Squadron. "They take a look at everything and make sure we're aware of any problems so we can get them fixed before the winter season hits this area."

"These Airmen are very professional and proficient," said Jeanne Earl, 341st Civil Engineer Squadron. "I've used this service for the past three years. It gives me confidence in my vehicle over the winter months."
