Roughly 160 people attended the Malmstrom Spouses' Club 19th Annual Mercantile Auction Nov. 3 at the Grizzly Bend Club.

This year's theme was "Golden Opportunities" which highlights the club's purpose of the auction. Andrea Trembruell, auction chairperson, said a generous scholarship or donation to a charity could offer a "Golden Opportunity" to the recipient, hence the meaning of this year's theme.

"This is MSC's only fundraiser each year, and the purpose of our club is to function as a non-profit organization that raises money to donate for scholarships and many deserving charities," Mrs. Trembruell said. "This year we raised more than $11,500; my personal goal was $10,000, and we beat that!"

The evening featured a silent auction, no-host international buffet, live auction and half way through the evening, a dessert auction featuring homemade goodies.

Some of the items auctioned off included resort lodging, massage packages, restaurant gift certificates, framed artwork, signed literature and jewelry.

Heather Garner and Lt. Col. Rob Garner, 341st Space Wing safety chief, moved to Malmstrom two weeks ago and decided it would be a great idea to attend the event.

"I heard about the auction and figured it would be a good way to meet people and become involved in the community," Mrs. Garner said. "So far it's been a really nice time."

The nine MSC committee members along with a slew of volunteers helped make the annual auction a success, Mrs. Trembruell said.

"I just want to say, 'thank you' to all the people who came out to the auction and for donating so generously," she said.
