MSET team focuses on Malmstrom starting Monday Published Feb. 21, 2008 By Jerry Kain 341st Space Wing Chief of Plans and Programs MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Starting Monday, approximately 63 inspectors from the 20th Air Force will be here for eight days to conduct a Missile Standardization, Evaluation, and Training assessment and a Maintenance Standardization and Evaluation Program. The MSET is an in-depth evaluation of nuclear technical responsibilities and capabilities. Specifically, they assess the installation's training, evaluation, technical proficiency and ability to support Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. Additionally, the MSEP certifies a unit's ability to properly maintain UH-1N helicopters. The 20th Air Force is required to conduct an MSET/MSEP at least every 18 months. Malmstrom's last MSET/MSEP was February 2007 when the wing aced the inspection with resounding results. The 341st Space Wing received "Excellent" ratings in every MSET assessment area except maintenance and security forces evaluation proficiency, which received "Outstanding" ratings. The wing's overall rating was "Excellent" for the MSET and "Outstanding" for the MSEP. Here are some tips to keep in mind as Malmstrom personnel go through the inspection: 1. Keep a positive attitude. Continue to do the same excellent job that you've been doing; don't change just because there are inspectors looking over our shoulders. 2. Ensure you render proper courtesies while the inspectors are in your area. Stand when inspectors arrive in offices and work areas. Address them with a professional "Sir" or "Ma'am" any time you talk with them. 3. Clean up and pick up garbage on a daily basis. Walk around outside your facilities to pick up debris. Shovel and remove snow or ice (if necessary). Clean up inside facilities. Remove the trash on a daily basis. Clean up common areas, hallways, break rooms, etc. 4. Don't attempt to guess an answer. If you're not positive on the response, then look up the answer in the Air Force Instruction or Technical Order while the inspector is there. Ask your supervisor, or the inspector, for clarification. Remember, you don't have to provide them an immediate, off-the-cuff answer. 5. If the inspectors discover any problems, correct what you can on the spot. 6. Finally, remember NOT to argue with inspectors. Elevate concerns and issues up the chain of command. Call the 341st Space Wing Plans Office at 731-7124 with any last minute questions. Let's demonstrate, once again, that the 341st Space Wing is the best Missile Wing in the Air Force!
