Community Notes Week of March 14 Published March 11, 2008 MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Scouts to collect non-perishable items Cub Scout Pack 43 and Boy Scout Troop 43 will be in the Malmstrom housing areas March 15, between 9 a.m. and noon to collect items occupants have voluntarily left on their porch. All donations will be given to the Great Falls Community Food Bank. Questions should be directed to Char Ross at 771-1210. Self defense for women class offered There will be a self defense for women clinic offered March 17, 18 and 19 at the Fitness Center. Classes will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. in the aerobics room March 17 and in the upper gym the other two days. A maximum of 50 people will be accepted. There is no charge to participate. Spouses Club announces March social event The Malmstrom Spouses Club is hosting a Bunco night March 20 at Aces High Bowling Center. The games begin at 6:30 p.m. and new members are always welcome. Cost is $2 per person and includes pizza, salad and drinks. If you have never played Bunco but would like to learn, this is your chance. Reserve your spot by calling Helen Scholars at 866-0245. Small business workshop coming The Airman and Family Readiness Center along with the Small Business Administration will conduct a workshop March 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in building 1192. Seating is limited so early registration is encouraged. Call 731-4900 to sign up. Donations needed for Guardian Challenge auction An auction to raise funds to support the 2008 Guardian Challenge team is scheduled for April 5 at the Grizzly Bend Club. In order to maximize the fund-raising potential of this event, organizers are asking for donations for the live and silent auctions. Items can be brought to the 564th Missile Squadron office located on the third floor of building 500 or arrangements can be made for the items to be picked up by calling Capt. Aaron Basham at 731-6800 or 1st Lt. Sarah Ford at 731-7181. Please make donation by March 29 to allow time for an auction catalog to be compiled. Help support Team Malmstrom's bid to defend the Blanchard Trophy. MSC to hold elections The Malmstrom Spouse's Club will conduct their elections at the April Social meeting. Applications for nominations for all positions on the Board of Governors are being accepted through March 31. The positions are open to all spouses of active-duty military members stationed here or abroad, enlisted and officer. Air Show vendor meeting scheduled There will be a meeting March 26 at 1 p.m. in the Youth Center ballroom for groups interested in applying for concession space at the upcoming air show and open house May 17 and 18. MSC scholarship applications being accepted The Malmstrom Spouse's Club is now accepting applications for FY08 scholarships. High school seniors can pick up an application from their guidance counselor and military spouses can pick one up from the Education Center on base or the college they are attending's financial aid office. Applicants must be family members of active-duty or retired military personnel. Applications need to be turned in by March 31. Cell phone use reminder Cell phone use by anyone, active-duty, retired, family members, civilian employees and visitors, while driving on Malmstrom Air Force Base is unauthorized unless using a hands-free device. Violators are subject to citation by Security Forces personnel. Accessing publications and forms on the Web With the integration of the wing intranet into the Air Force portal, all current 341st Space Wing publications (excluding restricted publications) are available for reading or download at the portal, or merely type www.e-publishing.af.mil. To access current wing publications of forms, select under the drop-down menu "unit," (do not select "base") and then "341SW." The list of publications by Air Force Specialty Code related series will come up for you as before. To find current 341 SW supplements to higher headquarters publications, look under the title "supplement" and then select the appropriate higher headquarters to find the basic publication (by AFSC relation again) that was supplemented. Room available for furniture consignments The Thrift and Consignment Store currently has space for furniture items such as dressers, dinette sets and decks. Anyone wanting to consign or donate items should visit during store hours Tuesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The store is also open the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Consignments are accepted until 1 p.m. and donations are welcome during store hours.
