Community Notes: Week of May 9 Published May 8, 2008 MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Gate closure announced The Second Avenue North Gate will be closed through 6 a.m. May 11. Liberty Electric, the contractor performing security work in the vicinity of the gate, has requested a three day closure due to limited space and safety concerns with traffic. The contractor will be using a concrete saw to cut and remove the existing concrete, augur holes and set new bollards in concrete. Questions should be directed to the 341st Civil Engineer Squadron at 731-6900. Upcoming changes of command The following changes of command have been scheduled in May. This event offers shoppers an opportunity to buy bulk quantities of products at lower prices such as canned goods, beverages, paper products, pet supplies, cleaning or laundry products and, in some cases, fresh chicken, pork, beef and produce. Troy University looking for students Twenty students are needed by the end of July to enroll in a master's degree program in management or international relations through Troy University. Classes are open to everyone in the Great Falls area who holds a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited school. Registration for the upcoming term is now in progress and runs through May 23. Best ball golf tournament scheduled The 341st Missile Security Forces Squadron booster club is hosting a best ball golf tournament starting at 9 a.m. May 30 at the Zahara Valley Golf Course. The cost is $50 per person which includes18 holes of golf and cart rental. Teams will be eligible for many prizes including a new Clevelan HiBORE XLS driver. Free child care available For those new to Malmstrom or those getting ready to depart, the Air Force Aid Society will pay up to 20 hours of child care per child in a licensed Family Child Care home for active-duty families who are within 60 days of PCSing. In 2007, the AFAS paid more than $329,000 for the Child Care for PCS Program. Active-duty members can use the care at both the losing and gaining installations. The certificate is only valid at the issuing base. Bring a copy of your orders to the Airman and Family Readiness Center to receive a certificate of eligibility. For more information, call 731-4900. Online bowhunter education available Fish, Wildlife and Parks is now offering bowhunter education online. Although the course is online, students must still take a field test to receive their bowhunter education card. Several field days are set throughout the state for online students. Only students 18 years old and older may take the online course, which costs $20. In the Great Falls area, prospective online students must also attend a two-hour class before attending a field day, either May 10 or July 19. The two hour classes are offered: May 8 and 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. and May 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information, check the National Bowhunter Education Foundation Web site at www.nbef.org.
