Community Notes: Week ending July 25 Published July 24, 2008 MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Free picnic sponsored by AFSA The Air Force Sergeants Association is holding a free barbecue and family picnic July 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sun Park Plaza. The festivities include a pig roast and picnic food; a jumpy castle for the children and young at heart; outdoor games; and music. The event is free, open to all ranks and all are welcome! 2nd Avenue North gate to close The 2nd Avenue North gate will be closed from 6 a.m. July 31 to 6 a.m. Aug. 4. The closure is needed for bollard installation, set up and pretesting and the pre-final inspection of the barriers. The 1st Liberty Federal Credit Union gate will be open July 31 and Aug. 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. for incoming traffic only and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for outgoing traffic only. For access to the base on the weekend, use the 10th Avenue North Gate. Appointments needed for legal assistance Due to manning shortages, legal assistance will be limited to emergencies and mobility-related issues effective immediately. Junior deployment line processing set for Aug. 5 The next Junior Deployment Line will be held at the Youth Center Aug. 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The program is open to all Malmstrom youth. Preregister at the Youth Center Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. or the day of the event. Pictures will be taken of each child to put in their "passport to fun." The passport entitles the participant to get a stamp at each station and have as a keepsake of the event. Stations include finance (money grab), MRE tasting, chaplain (prayer book giveaway). immunizations (giveaways), transportation (giveaways), security forces (face painting), dog tags, craft projects, library and a free barbecue for all. For complete details, call the Youth Center at 731-4634. 564th looking for golfers The 564th Missile Squadron will host a Deactivation Golf Tournament Aug. 14 at the Eagle Falls Golf Club. Format is a shotgun start, two-person team scramble. The cost is $45 per person with a chance at $1,500 in door prizes, $1,000 for eight competition holes and cash prizes for the top three teams. UPTOWN Optimist Club invites new members The UPTOWN Optimist Club meets every Thursday at the Taco Treat Amigo Lounge, 7th Street South, at 6:30 p.m. If you are looking for a fun way to become involved and hlp the youth in our community, the club is looking for you. Currently 138-member team, the group provides support and assistance to youth through the childhood cancer campaign, at-risk youth scholarships support of the Boys and Girls Clubs, oratorical and essay contests, Rescue Mission, Mercy Home, junior golf and various sports events in Cascade County.
