A special court-martial was held here July 23 in the case of United States v. Airman Basic Pedro W. Lara III.

Airman Lara, a member of the 341st Logistics Readiness Squadron, was charged with one charge and specification of attempted larceny, and one charge and specification of conspiracy to commit larceny of a value of more than $1,700.00 by committing a do-it-yourself (DITY) move fraud. Specifically, Airman Lara falsely weighed the household goods at issue when he drove a second vehicle partway onto the scales, adding extra weight, and then printing off the false weight tickets. The false weight tickets were then turned in as part of the DITY move voucher of another airman. The suspicious weight totals were initially investigated by the Traffic Management Office and subsequently by Air Force Office of Special Investigation.

At trial, Airman Lara pled guilty to the charges and specifications of attempted larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny before a military judge sitting alone. Col.Ronald Gregory, the military judge, found Airman Lara guilty of the charges and specifications and sentenced him to confinement for two months and a forfeiture of $500 pay per month for two months.
