AF makes CCAF attainable to all enlisted ranks Published Aug. 13, 2008 By Melissa Laferriere 341st Force Support Squadron MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- It's the only one in the Department of Defense and it's the largest in the world. It's the Community College of the Air Force and you're already enrolled! Earning an Associate of Applied Science degree is easier than most people think since a large portion of it is already complete, merely by having attended Basic Military Training, technical school and being awarded a 5-level. Attending Airman Leadership School, NCO Academy, SNCO Academy and achieving a 7-level supports degree requirements as well. This is not "just" an associate's degree; it's an applied associate's degree. What is the difference? An associate's degree is book knowledge; where as an applied associate's degree is hands-on and book knowledge. The hands-on portion is almost, if not already complete, so why not take advantage of the education possibilities afforded to each active-duty servicemember and complete this degree? The majority of students need approximately five general education courses to complete CCAF degree requirements. These courses can be found on the Web Progress Report (Web PR) using the Air Force Portal. People can log on to the AF Portal using a government computer and go to the Air Force Virtual Education Center (AFVEC). Once there, click on "CCAF Actions" (on the right side), then go to "CCAF Web Progress Report" and click on the hyperlink under "Title." CCAF is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). For more information about degree programs and higher education, call the Education and Training Center at 731-3531 Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Wednesdays 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.).
