Help keep Malmstrom clean and green; know recycling procedures

The United States recycles 32 percent of its waste, a rate that has almost doubled during the past 15 years. Malmstrom's recycling goal is 50 percent - a goal that can only be achieved with everyone's participation.

Housing residents are strongly encouraged to participate in the curbside recycling program. Residents are responsible for collecting and storing their recyclables (aluminum, tin, glass, cardboard and paper) in the 90-gallon containers provided and for placing their containers on the curbside for collection by Montana Waste Systems. Residential curbside recycling and waste pickup is available to residents in most of the housing areas.

Grass Clippings and Sod: Base residents are urged to use a mulching mower to eliminate bagging of grass clippings. However, those who must bag their grass clippings or have removed sod to plant a garden can use the refuse dumpsters provided. If a dumpster is full, place the clippings in another dumpster - not beside the full dumpster or in the recycling dumpster.

Aluminum, Tin, Glass, Cardboard and Newspaper: Aluminum, tin, glass, cardboard and paper can also be taken to the Malmstrom AFB Recycle center located near the car wash or use the City of Great Falls Citizen's Convenience Center (15th St. N. and River Rd. Thursday to Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

Plastics: Number one and two plastics can be taken to the recycle center located near the car wash.

Clothing and other useful household items: The Airman's Attic, Goodwill (will pickup), St. Vincent De Paul (will pickup), and the Salvation Army are excellent places to sell or donate your useful household items.

Unusable Furniture and other large items: Residents of Malmstrom can call Montana Waste Systems Inc. at 452-7351 before Friday to have them pick-up large items from the curbside. Downtown residents can call your refuse service for curbside pick-up.

Household cleaning and other chemicals: Make excess products available to other Malmstrom residents through the Self-Help Store exchange program. Drop off or pick up products at the Self-Help Store, located in building 210. For further information contact the Self-Help Store at 731-7701

Make Shipping Boxes Available for DITY Move: The Environmental Flight has free shipping boxes available for personnel performing a Do-It-Yourself move. Personnel moving into Base Housing are encouraged to recycle and/or reuse boxes not taken by the moving company. Break down the boxes and place packing paper into plastic bags. Drop the boxes off at the environmental shop behind building 410 or call the environmental shop at 731-6441 for pickup. If you are performing a Do-It-Yourself move give the environmental shop a call at 731-6441 to get your free moving boxes
