Volunteers sought for Day of Caring to help elderly in local community Published Sept. 12, 2008 By Valerie Mullett 341st Missile Wing Public Affairs Office MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Volunteers from Malmstrom are once again being sought after to participate in the annual "Day of Caring," an event held in conjunction with the Combined Federal Campaign that benefits our community seniors. This year's event is scheduled Oct. 17 starting at 8:30 a.m. Co-sponsored by Malmstrom Air Force Base, the United Way and the United States Postal Service, these organization's volunteers work together to do household chores, minor maintenance and yard work for elderly in Great Falls who need assistance. "This is a great way for people to donate during the CFC without having to spend any money," Master Sgt. Mark Stagray said. "They can donate their time and their energy instead." The day will begin with complimentary hot drinks and doughnuts at the main post office, 215 1st Ave. N, and then job assignments will be handed out. More than 100 people are needed and those who volunteer are asked to bring whatever equipment they might have, such as gloves, tools, garbage bags, mowers, edgers, ladders, etc., if they are able to. "This opportunity made me feel really good," Senior Airman Jeffrey Baumgartner, 341st Tactical Response Force member said after participating in last year's "Day of Caring." "It feels good to be able to give to the community and help those who are I need of what we can provide. I'd recommend this event to everyone as one to participate in next year." Next year is here. The event is coming in four weeks. Sign up now to be another recipient of those good feelings Airman Baumgartner experienced. Everyone is welcome to lend a hand - active duty members, civilians, family members, and anyone else wanting to help. There is a sign up sheet on the 10-day share drive in a folder named "Day of Caring," or you can contact any of the three organizational representatives listed below to sign up.
