CFC offers federal employees charitable opportunities Published Sept. 25, 2008 By Airman 1st Class Dillon White 341st Missile Wing Public Affairs Office MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Federal civilian employees and servicemembers in the Great Falls area can make a tax-deductible donation to an eligible non-profit organization of their choice during the Combined Federal Campaign. More than 300 CFC campaigns are held nationally and internationally to raise money for organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's CFC Web site. Each squadron will have a key worker that will provide members with information and collect donations via cash, check or payroll deduction. "Our requirement is 100 percent contact, but no one is required to donate" said Master Sgt. Mark Stagray, 341st Medical Support Squadron NCO in charge of Medical Equipment Repair, "We will make sure everyone has the information they need to be able to donate, and we will collect those donations." In conjunction with the CFC, the "Day of Caring" provides an opportunity for people wanting to volunteer their time and effort in the local community. Volunteers will assist elderly citizens in the local area with household projects such as: raking yards, painting, cleaning windows and other light house work, said Tanna Zbinden, customer relations coordinator at the Great Falls main post office. "[The 'Day of Caring] gives you the warm feeling you get from helping someone do something we take for granted every day," Ms. Zbinden said. "This is a great way for people to donate during the CFC without having to spend any money," Sergeant Stagray said. "They can donate their time and their energy instead." "Day of Caring" volunteers will meet at the Great Falls Main Library at 8:30 a.m. for coffee and a light breakfast, then leave in groups to accomplish the requested work, she said. People interested in volunteering this year can sign up through their squadron key workers, Sergeant Stagray said. Donations to the CFC can be made by cash, check or payroll deduction.
