The vehicle scale at the Traffic Management Office opened Oct. 8 after certification by the Montana State Bureau of Weights and Measures.

This calibration and certification was an annual requirement.

Servicemembers doing a personal procured move, or do-it-yourself move, can once again weigh their vehicle on the scale adjacent to the Northeast side of Building 800, said Airman Damarious Farley, 341st Logistics Readiness Squadron traffic management apprentice. The scale is open 24 hours a day.

"People should make sure their fuel tanks are at the same level when they weigh the vehicle empty, and loaded," Airman Farley said. "There are also closed-circuit television cameras in use to prevent fraud such as weighing half of a vehicle the first time by only pulling the vehicle on the scale part-way, and weighing the whole vehicle the second time to get more money."

While the cameras are not new to the scale, those who have used the scale in the past will see one difference. The entrance and exit have swapped and people must now enter from Perimeter Road and exit onto Goddard Drive.

Weight tickets, a printer and instructions on how to operate the scale are located inside a silver box against the Traffic Management Office building, said Nancy Woerdehoff, 341st LRS freight rate assistant. There is also a light inside the box to assist those weighing vehicles at night.
