Gate closure announced
The 2nd Avenue North gate will be closed to all traffic on Saturday, Jan. 24 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. due to construction. The 10th Avenue North gate will be will be open for all traffic during this time. All visitors will still need to process through the Visitor Control Center for passes, which will maintain normal operations. The 2nd Avenue North gate will re-open for normal operations at 6 p.m. Jan. 24, at which time the 10th Ave North gate will close. Questions should be directed to the 341st Security Forces Squadron personnel at 731-6456.

Annual Awards Banquet committee seeking theme
The Annual Awards Banquet committee is looking for creative Team Malmstrom members to present their ideas for the theme of this year's banquet. Present your ideas to Senior Master Sgt. Sam McPherson via e-mail, samie.mcpherson@malmstrom.af.mil. Those submitting ideas should have the central theme and supporting materials available should their theme be selected. The cutoff for submissions is today, Jan. 16.

Scouts annual cookie sale begins
Beginning today, Jan. 16 through Jan. 30, base Girl Scout troop members will be in family housing for their annual cookie sale. All girls will be in uniform and accompanied by an adult. Scouts are allowed to visit residents Monday through Friday between 4 and 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be no selling on Sundays. The girls will provide a troop ID tag to the residents to let other Scouts know contact has been made. Questions should be directed to Becky Kanski at 771-6518.

Holiday hours at Commissary
The following are the commissary hours of operation to observe Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday:
Friday, Jan. 16: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 17: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Early bird shopping is 7 to 9 a.m. both days
Sunday, Jan. 18: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Monday, Jan. 19: Closed
Tuesday, Jan. 20: Closed in observance of the holiday.

AFSA to meet
The Air Force Sergeants Association Chapter 1156 monthly meeting takes place Jan. 21 at 3:30 p.m. in the basement meeting room at the Grizzly Bend Club. Nominations for the next executive committee will be discussed and voting will take place during the February meeting. The agenda includes the upcoming elections, legislative issues in 2009, community involvement and fundraising ideas. For more information, contact Master Sgt. Tim Hezel at 731-4766.

Changes at TMO
Due to manning shortages, the personal property section of the distribution flight will be holding counseling briefings on Tuesdays and Thursdays only at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Personnel need to come to building 800 with orders to fill out a work sheet and schedule a briefing. Duty hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 731-6282 or 731-6281 with any questions or concerns.

Thrift Store has reopened
The Malmstrom Thrift and Consignment Store has reopened after being closed for the holidays. The store is located in Bldg. 581 on Goddard Ave. The store is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Consignments are accepted until 1 p.m. If you have any questions about the Thrift Store, please call 731-3213.

Scouts collecting recyclables
As part of their World Conservation Project, Scouts from Pack 43 will be collecting newspapers and aluminum cans through March 31. Anyone wishing to contribute to the project with donations can contact Char Ross at 771-1210 for more information or collection pick-up.

Free comedy show in Feb.
