A summary court-martial was held here on Jan. 13, in the case of United States v. Senior Airman Robert S. Schinzing.

Airman Schinzing, a member of the 741st Missile Security Forces Squadron, was charged with two specifications, provoking speech, and drunk and disorderly conduct. Specifically, he used racially provocative and demeaning terms towards a victim. This action was in violation of Article 117 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Additionally, Airman Schinzing exhibited drunk and disorderly conduct violating Article 134 of the UCMJ.

At trial, Airman Schinzing pled guilty to both charges and specifications before a summary court-martial officer, Lt. Col. Douglas M. Stephenson. After Colonel Stephenson accepted Airman Schinzing's guilty plea, the sentencing phase of the trial began and evidence was presented for Colonel Stephenson to consider before he determined an appropriate sentence.

After hearing all the evidence, Colonel Stephenson sentenced Airman Schinzing to 10 days in confinement, a reduction in rank to airman basic and a forfeiture of $400. Airman Schinzing has the opportunity to submit matters to the summary court-martial convening authority, Col. Michael Fortney, before final action on the case is taken.
