AFAS offering free CNA training Published Jan. 29, 2009 By Karan Hilliard Airman and Family Readiness Center MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- The Air Force Aid Society exists primarily to assist military personnel, retirees and their family members (to include those of military personnel who are deceased) with financial distress. The Society also administers an array of educational and community enhancement programs. In 2008, Malmstrom utilized thousands of dollars through the Air Force Aid Society for the various programs offered. These programs included: Air Force Aid Loan & Falcon Loan ($188,000) Give Parents a Break ($4,169) Bundles for Babies ($5,810) Heart Link ($800) Car Care Because We Care ($1,463) Phone Home Program ($3,693) Child Care for PCS ($2,720) Child Care for Volunteers ($47) Youth Employment Skills ($4,312.50) Through the Air Force Aid Society Spouse Employment Program, Malmstrom was recently approved to offer the Certified Nursing Assistant Program in partnership with Spectrum Medical Services. Through this program, the Air Force Aid Society will pay for 10 spouses of active- duty military to become certified CNA's. Three sessions will be offered: May 4-15, with two days of testing immediately after, Sept. 8-21, with two days of testing immediately after, and Oct. 5-16, with two days of testing immediately after. Spouses will only need to attend one session to become certified. Certification is for the state of Montana. If you move to another state, you may require additional coursework to maintain the certification.
