New service offered for children, parents Published March 10, 2009 By 341st Force Support Squadron personnel MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- The Airman and Family Services Flight is pleased to announce another great service for parents of children and youth in the Child Development Center, Family Child Care and Youth Programs. The Child and Youth Behavioral Military and Family Life Consultant (CYB-MFLC) Program is here. Today's military families face many unique challenges such as deployments. The Department of Defense is providing short-term, non-medical counseling to active duty and Guard/Reserve members and their families to augment existing military support programs. The CYB-MFLC's are master's- or doctorate-level individuals who are licensed and have experience working with children and youth. They are assigned to Malmstrom on 45-day rotations throughout the year. CYB-MFLC's will assist and support the CDC, FCC and Youth staff and work with children and families. The consultant is available to: · Observe, participate and engage in activities with children and youth · Provide direct interventions in classrooms, camp or FCC settings; assist staff in managing the situation and setting boundaries · Model behavioral management techniques and provide feedback to staff · Suggest courses of age-appropriate behavioral interventions to enhance coping and behavioral skills · Outreach to parents · Facilitate psycho-educational groups at Child and Youth Programs · Conduct training for staff and parents · Recommend referrals to military social services and other resources as needed Subject areas may include but are not limited to the following: · Communication · Resolving conflicts · Managing anger · Bullying · Self-esteem/self-confidence · Behavioral management techniques · Sibling/parental relationships · Deployment and reintegration issues The consultant is available to accommodate appointments and meetings after hours and on the weekend with advance notice. At no time will the consultant meet individually with a child/youth without being in the line of sight of a staff member or with their parent/guardian. It is exciting to have a CYB-MFLC and we hope you will take advantage of this outstanding opportunity.
