Community Notes: Week ending April 3 Published April 3, 2009 MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Thrift Store open Saturday The Thrift and Consignment Store is open Saturday, April 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ; consignments are accepted until 1 p.m. The store is located in building 581 on Goddard Dr. Visit during regular business hours, as well, Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Spring and summer items are currently being accepted for consignment. For more information, call the store at 731-3213. CGOA meets every Friday The Company Grade Officer's Association meets every Friday at 4:30 p.m. at the Grizzly Bend Club. There is free food, free pool, free foosball, Wii Sports and every other week features karaoke. This is a great way to meet others in your peer group as the CGOA is designed to act as a networking opportunity in a relaxed environments. Annual SAAM training scheduled Mandatory annual Sexual Assualt Awareness Month training takes place April 8 at 6, 8 and 10 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. at the base theater. For more information, call 731-4225. 'Guitar Hero' X-Box tournament getting started Airman E1 through E6 are invited to participate in a "Guitar Hero" X-Box tournament scheduled to start April 10 from 6 to 10 p.m. in the Grizzly Bend Club basement. The tournament is free and cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place each day of play. Free non-alcoholic beverages and appetizers will be available. Equipment is provided. Format is two-player, head-to-head challenge where the winner moves on to the next round. European culture committee to meet There will be a European Culture Committee meeting April 15 at 3:30 p.m. in the Equal Opportunity classroom, building 770, room 25. Anyone of European descent that would like to share their culture with others is asked to attend. Event planning for a summer activity will take place and ideas are needed and encouraged. Communication and you seminar coming April 20 The Airman and Family Readiness Center staff will host a fun, relaxing workshop that teaches how to get needs met, raise self-esteem and express what you mean. CERT training being offered Cascade County is offering Community Emergency Response Team training April 22 to 25 at Montana ExpoPark. Meals are provided and graduates will receive a "jump kit" of emergency response equipment. Cascade County CERT is very involved in the community providing disaster and emergency services as an emergency response team. They also work with various other groups such as the City/County Health Department, Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Forest Service. Earth Day 2009 is coming The annual Earth Day celebration is April 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Montana State University College of Technology campus. There will be children's games, informational booths, a hybrid vehicle display, energy conservation information, recycling information, student poster contest winners will be announced and more. Free paint and equipment will be available. Prizes will be awarded and lunch is also provided. Participants must be at least 16 years old; five players per team. Plastic recycling discontinued Effective immediately, plastic recycling is discontinued on Malmstrom AFB or through the City of Great Falls. The plastic recycling drop off at the Malmstrom AFB recycling center is closed. The recycling vendor, Big Sky Pipe, notified Malmstrom AFB and City that due to the drastic devaluation of post-consumer plastics, they could no longer recycle plastic.
