Community Notes: Week ending May 1 Published May 3, 2009 MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- May change of command ceremonies outlined The following change of command ceremonies take place as indicated below: - May 14, 9 a.m., Medal of Honor Park - 341st Security Forces Squadron - May 20, 10 a.m., Grizzly Bend Club - 341st Operations Group Additionally, a retirement ceremony for the 341st OG Commander, Col. David Durgan, takes place May 21, 9:30 a.m., Grizzly Bend Club. All members of Team Malmstrom are invited to attend these ceremonies. Thrift Store open May 2 The Malmstrom Thrift and Consignment Store is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The store is located in building 581 on Goddard Drive. The store's regular operating hours are Tuesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Spring and summer items are now being accepted for consignment and donations are always welcome. Extended hours begin at Self-Help Store Starting May 2, the Self-Help Store will be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Annual flower and shrub issue is scheduled to start May 12. Airman's Night at the Commissary is May 3 A special night at the commissary takes place May 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. to introduce the products and services offered to single Airman. There will be games, food and prize give-aways. Guitar Hero® X-Box® tournament on tap in May All E-1 through E-6 Airmen are invited to participate in the Top 3 "Guitar Hero"® X-Box® tournament May 1, 8 and 29 from 6 to 10 p.m. each day at the Grizzly Bend Club (basement). The tournament is free to enter and cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place each day of play. There are also free non-alcoholic drinks and appetizers available. All X-Box® equipment will be provided and the tournament is a two-player, head-to-head challenge where the winner moves on to the next round. People interested in volunteering or to sign-up for the tournament can e-mail Staff Sgt. William McKowan or Tech. Sgt. Joseph Hansen. People can also sign-up the day of the event at the club. Multi-cultural integration/adaptation open forum offered The Airman and Family Readiness Center staff will facilitate an open forum on multi-cultural integration and adaptation May 7 at noon. Topics to discuss include breaking language barriers, culture adaptation, marketing your skills, benefits of bilingual capabilities and more. To register or for more information, call 731-4900. Safety tips for running, walking on roadways The Wing Safety Office offers the following tips on running and walking on roadways: - Always run or walk facing traffic. - Don't run in formation on raids and streets; always run in single file lines. - Don't impede traffic while running or walking on roadways. - Be cognizant of oncoming vehicles. - When drivers encounter runners and walkers, they will slow down and allow enough room to safely pass. - Wearing portable headphones while running, jogging, walking, bicycling or skating on Air Force installation roadways is prohibited in accordance with AFI 91-207. Combat Arms ranges are off-limits The Combat Arms ranges, located on the southeast corner of the base, are off-limits to all personnel except those conducting official business or attending training. Movie nights at Detour Every Tuesday night at the Detour, come and watch new releases and have some popcorn. The fun starts at 7 p.m. and it's all free.
