Every little bit counts, especially when you are heading to college. That's the mindset Elizabeth Hezel had when she began filling out grant and scholarship applications about six months ago.

Daughter of Master Sgt. Timothy Hezel, 341st Force Support Squadron career assistance advisor, Ms. Hezel was recently awarded $2,000 from the Air Force Aid Society General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant.

"A grant is a gift, so you don't have to pay it back, and that's great," Ms. Hezel said. "[It's] one you can re-apply for all through college."

Ms. Hezel graduated from Great Falls Central Catholic High School and was Valedictorian for her 2009 class. She plans to attend Carroll College in Helena in the fall to study engineering.

She found out about the grant through an announcement in the base paper, and she said the best way to learn about scholarship opportunities is to let everyone know what you're looking for.

"Everyone belongs to some sort of organization, and a lot give out scholarships," she said. "[People should] remember that the deadlines are the latest they want all the information and apply for everything, even things you don't think you could win."
