Airman 1st Class Justin Daley, 741st Missile Security Forces Squadron, was selected as the first "Detour Volunteer of the Year" at a ceremony Sunday at the Detour.

Airman Daley was recognized as the "Volunteer of the Month" three times in the past year as he logged more than 400 hours of off-duty time supporting the Detour.

"His determined dedication over the past year proves he is deserving of such recognition for an outstanding accomplishment," said Chaplain (Capt) Thomas Woodruff, 341st Missile Wing, who, along with Ms. Julie Wiseman, Detour Coordinator, presented Airman Daley with the award on behalf of the chapel staff and coordinator.

"It was great to be recognized by Chaplain Woodruff and Ms. Wiseman," said Airman Daley. "There were a lot of other volunteers who spent many hours working to make the Detour a great place for all us Airman."

Chaplain Woodruff said Airman Daley is a role model for all Airmen, always eager to assist and is an asset to the coordinator and facility. He also said Airman Daley was instrumental in the renovation and re-opening of the Detour in April.

"Justin was an integral part of the April 2009 remodel," said Ms. Wiseman, "He often volunteers during his days off to clean, help out, or make repairs. His dedication to the Detour has been extensive; showcasing his integrity, responsibility and leadership."

"Airman Daley's selflessness in donating more than 400 hours of his time to the Detour shows he has truly embraced our Air Force core values and that he cares about making the base better for his fellow Airmen," said Chief Cari Kent, 341st Missile Wing command chief master sergeant. "Without people like Airman Daley stepping up to volunteer, the Detour wouldn't be as successful as it is."
