'Day of Caring' annual event is part of CFC Published Sept. 24, 2009 By Valerie Mullett 341st Missile Wing Public Affairs Office MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Volunteers from Malmstrom are, once again, needed to participate in the annual "Day of Caring," an event held in conjunction with the Combined Federal Campaign that benefits our community seniors and needy individuals. This year's event is scheduled Oct. 16 starting at 8:30 a.m. Co-sponsored by Malmstrom Air Force Base, the Montana Air National Guard, U.S. Forest Service and the U. S. Postal Service, these organizations' volunteers work together to do household chores, minor maintenance and yard work for citizens of Great Falls who need assistance. "This is a great way for people to donate during the CFC without having to spend any money," said 1st Lt. Tamara Wyatt, this year's project officer for Malmstrom. "They can donate their time and their energy instead to make a difference in someone's life." The day will begin with complimentary hot drinks and doughnuts at the main post office, 215 1st Ave. N, and then job assignments will be handed out. More than 100 people are needed and those who volunteer are asked to bring whatever equipment they might have, such as gloves, garbage bags, ladders, rakes, shovels, lawn mowers, trimmers, home and yard maintenance tools, if they have them. "I always look forward to the 'Day of Caring,'" Senior Airman Vickie Erickson, 341st Comptroller Contracting Squadron member said after participating in last year's "Day of Caring." "It's a great opportunity to go out and help those that need it. Something simple like shampooing a carpet or painting a deck makes a huge difference for those than cannot do it themselves. It's so satisfying to see how grateful the people are when we help them out. I can't think of a better way to spend my day!" This year's event is coming in three weeks. Sign up now to spend your day the way Airman Erickson did last year. Everyone is welcome to lend a hand - active duty members, civilians, family members, retirees and anyone else wanting to help. There is a sign-up sheet on the 10-day share drive in a folder named CFC 2009, then "Day of Caring," or you can contact any of the organizational representatives listed below to sign up.
